In an effort to diversify the livelihoods of farmers in the tobacco growing region of La Union, the local government started promoting apiculture in 2000. Training is provided to farmers by the National Apiculture Research Training and Development Institute (Nartdi), whilst the La Union Honeybee Center serves as a facility for processing the raw honey into bottled pure honey, honey vinegar, massage oil, soap and bee pollen.[1]
