In South Western Uganda some farmers were able to switch to rice and livestock keeping without external support. Rice was found to be two times more profitable than tobacco. A study conducted by the Center for Tobacco Control in Africa shows that the majority of farmers in tobacco growing districts would like to switch to alternative crops, as long as farm inputs, training and a guaranteed market are provided.[1]
